ABOUT THE COURSE

This course covers the fundamental concepts of 3-D reservoir modeling. The course introduces geologists, geoscientists and engineers to both the fundamental theory and practice of reservoir modeling for reservoir   management. The emphasis is on a hands-on practice using case studies and PETREL software computer programs.

The software to be used for this course is PETREL developed by Techno Guide. Experience from existing 3D modeling software showed that users often retreated to structurally simplified models, which have an adverse effect on interpreted geometries, distribution of properties and volume calculations.

With this in mind, PETREL was designed to be capable of solving the problems associated with building a structurally complex numerical model, taking most fault geometry’s into account. This, together with the convenience of easy data import, as well as easy exporting of the results, has proved to be a great success among users.

PETREL is a tool for:

  • Seismic interpretation in 3D.
  • 3D structural mapping and modeling including design of 3D grids for geological reservoir modeling and for flow simulation.
